Alpine Peace Crossing 2011
The 5th Alpine Peace Crossing event - consisting of the Krimml Peace Dialogue and the APC Peace Hike - took place on July 1/2, 2011.
The program this year (cf. the attached pdf of our German-language Flyer) was based on the conviction that a durable peace in the Middle East can only be possible if and when the - since 1948 - unresolved situation of the Palestinian refugees will also be taken care of.
APC 2011 was therefore dedicated to the situation of the Palestinian refugees.
With the topic "Between the Front Lines – the Palestinian Refugees" we experienced an interesting Krimml Peace Dialogue, the participants of the panel discussion were Viola Raheb, Sari Hanafi, Michael Ingber, Marko Feingold and moderator Sigrid Löffler.
At the APC Peace Hike we counted 182 participants, which was a fair number, considering the uncertain weather conditions (heavy rain on the previous day - but during the hike no rain, just a few snowflakes on the last 30 minutes before reaching the Krimmler Tauern pass). 19 refugees and asylum seekers presently living in Austria joined us for APC 2011, on the day of the Peace Hike 6 of this last group had already been granted asylum by the Austrian authorities.
Some more photographs taken during the hike are available behind this link.
